McKay Sunrise 19 - 1959 ES335 Replica - USED

$4899.99 $7500.00

image

McKay Sunrise 19

Our Perspective:
This guitar just came in on consignment. Ken McKay is a master builder and creates some of the most authentic ES335’s on the market. This particular guitar had an issue of the bridge being in the wrong place, the intonation was impossible to set properly. Our Tech (Former Master Builder at Hamer Guitars) pulled the bridge studs, filled them and reset the posts in the proper place, the intonation is perfect! At that time, we also replaced the original bridge with a Tone Pro’s ABR-1. The original bridge is included - someone filed the saddles, I think to try and get the intonation correct.

Enough of the cons, the upside is this guitar now plays and sounds incredible!! The playability is right on! The truss rod is all the way loose, with perfect relief, so there is plenty of adjustment to go with thicker strings These guitars sell new for $7500.00 - This one is a fraction of that!!

Consignment Sale, as such, All Sales Final!!

Weight - 8 lbs. 5 oz.

McKay Tribute Guitars:
Ken McKay bought his first guitar in 1972, a Fender Jazzmaster, and proceeded to "mod" it, which of course required he later restore it back to original. This set the stage for his lifelong interest in lutherie. Realizing the gap between interest and proficiency, he decided to study woodworking formally and enrolled in the School of Classical Woodcarving, and later started his lifelong quest of acquiring tonewood for violins, double basses and guitars. "Since then I have made them all," says McKay. "From violins to double basses, classical and fingerstyle guitars and my special passion, electric guitars. I let the wood stare at me for sometimes up to a decade before it tells me what it wants to be. Yet other woods, like a chunk of old growth mahogany tells me right away," he adds. "Some of the brazilian rosewood I have here is very old and has been stickered and curing for decades. I chopped down a huge white pine tree a couple of years ago and I am pretty sure those billets want to become double bass tops; now they are ready!"

McKay opened Up North Strings after loading up the tonewood, wife, and kids, and moving to Traverse City Michigan. "We primarily serviced and sold student stringed instruments and I made plenty of time for my special passion, making double basses. But making guitars, and guitar parts for other luthiers has always been a big part of my business, especially laminated guitar plates for archtop makers," says McKay. Having made some laminated guitars of his own design he started to think about paying tribute to some of the guitars that have risen to the top. "I wanted to see how close I could get to the original designs; I tried to get everything just right. Building jigs and acquiring more tonewood, including custom ordered veneer for laminating now takes the place of some of the violinmaking stuff. It is hard to make just one of the laminated guitars, it takes a lot of jiggery which is really hard to justify for just one tribute guitar. The first tribute guitar turned out so well I want see how far I can take this," says McKay.

Recently, the McKays moved to the Detroit area, a hotbed for manufacturing, and set up a new shop. There he has help from the next generation, his boys Quinn and Sean and now specializes in reproducing great guitars and wants to construct yours.

62/63 Fender Jazzmaster

Bank Check or Cash ONLY - do not check out thru our website - call us at the store - 860 496-9362

Our Perspective:
This beautiful 1962/63 (neck date Oct. 62) Fender Jazzmaster is an excellent example of this model from the Golden Age of Fender. The refinish is non-professional job, that displays orange peel, from a distance it looks fine, but up close you can see it more clearly. The neck finish is original as is everything else on the guitar. The volume pot looks like it had its solder touched, but it is most certainly the original CTS pot, dated the 16th week of 1959 and the Tone pot is dated the 46th week of 1962. The rhythm circuit pots look untouched, but a date code could not be read from them due to the factory original mounting. The amazing sounding pickups are black bottoms, as they should be. It also comes with the original brown hardshell case, which is also in great condition. The frets show normal wear, but have plenty of life left in them!

Check out the many pictures of this guitar, they are also part of the description.

McCarty 594 Soapbar 10-Top

Our Perspective:
PRS knocked it out of the park with this beautiful McCarty 594 Soapbar - The 10-Top is as nice as they come and lets just say, this particular guitar plays and sounds incredible!! The neck has a nice chunky profile and its super light weight with tone for days - These are only available for a limited time - don’t wait or they will be gone!!

Weight - 8 LBS

Overview:
PRS Guitars is proud to offer the acclaimed McCarty 594 and McCarty Singlecut 594 with PRS/Seymour Duncan Soapbar pickups. McCarty 594 models were designed to rival the best vintage instruments, meticulously spec’d with a 24.594” scale length, Pattern Vintage neck carve, tweaked Phase III locking tuners with modified collars and set screws, and a two-piece zinc bridge. Soapbars are one of the most classic pickup designs and add another tonal option for players that is at once incredibly familiar and effortlessly playable.
For this PRS/Seymour Duncan collaboration, we started with the Seymour Duncan Antiquity P90 for its sweet, vintage growl and cool, gritty sparkle. However, we modified the pickup slightly so it sits at the proper height in our cavity design. Like with original Antiquity pickups, chords sound full and round, while single notes sing sweetly. A relatively low output pickup, these soapbars have a many usable voicings by simply adjusting your volume and tone controls.
There is no limit to the number of McCarty 594 Soapbar guitars that will be made, but the order window is open from July 11 – August 31, 2017 only

Custom 24
The Custom 24 is the quintessential PRS guitar. This iconic instrument was the first model that Paul Reed Smith brought to the public at PRS Guitars’ first Winter NAMM show in 1985 and has been a top seller ever since. Played by internationally touring artists, gigging musicians, and aspiring players, the Custom 24 features PRS’s patented tremolo system and PRS 85/15 treble and bass pickups with volume and tone controls and a 5-way blade switch. 85/15 pickups were personally designed by Paul Reed Smith for PRS’s 30th Anniversary. They offer remarkable clarity and extended high and low end.
The Custom 24 is the original PRS. Since its introduction, it has offered a unique tonal option for serious players and defined PRS tone and playability.

McCarty 594 - 10-Top

Our Perspective:

This is an amazing instrument - PRS has revamped a classic and they hit it out of the park! The neck is one of the most comfortable I have ever played and the 58/15 pickups are unbelievable - this guitar will not disappoint!

Weighing in at: 7.6 LBS.

Vintage Heart with Modern Playability
The McCarty 594 is a vintage-inspired instrument that is at once incredibly familiar and effortlessly playable. Whether you are looking for rich, authentic, vintage humbucking tones or nuanced, sweet singlecoil sounds, the McCarty 594 can seamlessly master both sonic territories thanks to the 58/15 LT pickups and push/pull coil taps on the tone controls. The electronics layout, a few key specifications, and PRS craftsmanship combine in the McCarty 594 to create an instrument that plays in tune, is intonated the entire length of the neck, and feels like a guitar that you’ve been playing forever.

A few key specifications that contribute to the McCarty 594’s tone and feel are:

  • A 24.594” scale length, just slightly longer than 24.5” and where the model gets its name.
  • 58/15 LT pickups. LT, meaning low turns, which give the guitar a warm, clear tone.
  • 2 volume and 2 tone controls positioned so players can roll off both volume knobs at the same time.
  • The added versatility of push/pull coil taps for each pickup for more tonal options
  • A new Pattern Vintage neck carve, which shares the same width measurements as PRS’s Pattern neck but is slightly thicker front to back and features an asymmetrical carve with a little less meat on the treble side and a little more meat on the bass side of the neck.
  • Tweaked Phase III tuners that have an added set screw that pulls the tuner’s shaft, gear, and worm together (but take the tuner button out of play) to promote tone transfer from the string directly into the guitar itself with as little energy as possible begin detracted.

"The 594 is the best new guitar I've played in years. It has a vintage heart and soul but without the technical limitations that usually come along with an old instrument. What good is an old guitar if you can't get all that feel out of the upper frets, or the intonation is off? To hear that old PAF sound but be able to articulate the notes in a way that only modern manufacturing could allow is so exciting." John Mayer
