Greenhandle Tweed 1X12

Built here in CT, Greenhandle amplifiers offers top-quality, boutique-class, hand-built '50s tweed amp recreations. The quality of these amplifiers is second to none. If you are looking for a real-deal '50s tweed amp but can't afford the vintage prices or risky reliability, you cannot do better than Greenhandle amplifiers.

Fom the manufacturer's web site:

Greenhandle Music is my best effort to build the highest quality amps using 21st century parts and technology. Starting with old school layouts and designs, I personally build every one of these amps with the finest modern parts and technology I can find. This attention to detail renders an amp with all the original tone as defined by the great amp builders of the past but with superior reliability and lower noise floors. In this new world of small studios and home recording, it is impossible to have an original 50’s Tweed at every location. Also, original early amps have become too valuable to take out on tour to be stolen or beaten to death by the rigors of the road. Greenhandle Amps attempts to puts these tone monsters comfortably back in the hands of the working musician.

This 5E3 type circuit has a number of modifications. I used isolated input and output jacks with modified star grounding scheme. Also, a Mercury Magnetics power transformer was selected with a modified secondary to adjust for modern AC line voltage. This, in conjunction with a NOS rectifier tube, ensures the B+ voltage remains appropriately low for the power and preamp tubes. This Mercury power transformer also provides a center tapped heater circuit that, combined with tightly twisted heater wires, keeps the AC noise to a minimum. All Greenhandle 1x12 Tweed amps come with a Mercury output transformer with 5k and 8k taps so they can run either 6L6 or 6V6 tubes. The cathode capacitors have been reduced to filter out some of the bass and the Paul C mod has been installed. Shielded coaxial is always used to eliminate as much noise as possible in the early preamp section. The early power filter capacitors have been beefed up and screen resistors are installed. Finally, in this instance, wire preamp tube holders were installed rather than shield covers to avoid rattling at high volume. This particular set of modifications works well with humbuckers.

Mesa/Boogie 2x12 Recto Horizontal Cab

Full Details:
2x12 Recto® Horizontal Cabinet
This cabinet is LEGENDARY! The original Rectifier® 2x12 Horizontal Cabinet was designed by matching the dimensions of the bottom two speakers in a Standard Oversized Rectifier 4x12. While simple in it’s design concept, the resulting sealed enclosure delivers HUGE punch, projection and authority from it’s relatively small size. In addition to world-class low end response, it’s midrange punch and bite, coupled with the classic warmth and cut of Celestion Vintage 30s, makes this cabinet an excellent choice for all styles despite it’s reputation in high gain rock, alternative and metal styles. Anytime you want to bring a 4x12 but can’t, the 2x12 Recto® sounds big enough to make you wonder if you DO have a 4x12 behind you!
You simply won’t find a better cabinet. ALL MESA® ENCLOSURES are made using the finest Void-free, Marine Grade Baltic Birch. Super strong rabbet corners are glued and nailed. Speaker baffles are fitted with superior dado joint construction and braced. Grilles are wrapped around a separate grille board, not the baffle board. Grille material is made of strong twisted jute dipped in a special coating that filters top end for a sweeter response.

The Home of Tone®
Cabinetry plays a major and sometimes overlooked role in achieving the ultimate sound you are searching for. While your amp offers controls for fine-tuning your sound, no amp will sounds its best without an equally good (or better) sounding cabinet. That’s why it’s so important to choose a cabinet that will not only suit your playing style, but also enhance it and the other equipment you're using.
The Rectifier® Cabinet Series is designed and constructed using the best materials, speakers and craftsmanship you can own. Our most popular cabinet line also offers the widest array of configurations, sizes and styling, assuring that you can find a Rectifier Cabinet to fulfill the needs of any tone, feel or footprint you’re looking for.

Special Semi-Hollow

The PRS Special Semi-Hollow Limited Edition guitar offers players a versatile hum/single/hum configuration with two PRS 58/15 MT (Multi-Tap) humbuckers and a PRS Narrowfield middle pickup. The 58/15 MT’s offer all the tone of the originals while compensating for volume loss when split to single coils. The Narrowfield pickup delivers the bite of a single coil – with- out the hum but with plenty of clarity and punch. Paired with a 5-Way blade switch and two mini-toggles that tap the hum- buckers, this guitar can handle myriad sounds and styles, and the semi-hollow body with single f-hole provides a welcome airiness and depth to the guitar’s tone.

The foundation of this guitar is very much like a Custom 22 – maple top, mahogany back, 22-fret 25” scale length mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard, Phase III tuners, and PRS Gen III patented tremolo – but the versatile electronics truly carry it to new sonic territory. The PRS Special Semi-Hollow makes its debut at Experience PRS 2018.

There is no cap to the number of PRS Special Semi-Hollow guitars that will be made, but the order window is limited to June 8 – August 31, 2018.

Sky King

Tone King Amp Visionary Mark Bartel On The Design of the New Sky King

  • "In 2012 I came out with the Falcon, where I got deep into some old school, Tweed meets Supro kind of tones. I really liked that direction and had a lot of fun with that amp, which is just so much fun to play. This year my goal was to create a bigger format amp that takes the Falcon recipe and applies it to more familiar voicings, like those of the Imperial. The Sky King layout is similar to the Imperial. It's just that the tone is a kind of a combination of the Imperial and the Falcon.
  • I took the voicings of the Imperial, which cover a lot of ground - you get that nice 1960's Blackface kind of sound for the cleans, and the lead channel goes from a real nice tweed to an early Marshall kind of thing - and just gave that the mojo and texture that I have with the Falcon, that just makes it so fun to play.
  • And there's a bonus: I added a pentode/ultralinear switch, to deliver those old vintage voicings but also modern voicings. So you can get all that funky mojo but you can also switch over to pentode mode and get a nice, crisp, sharp attack.
  • The Sky King's basic clean tone is a lot like the Imperial, but when you play it you can hear that it doesn't quite have the Imperial's sharpness. Instead, the Sky King has this real rounded quality; this real syrupy kind of thing - like what you have with the Falcon. But the cool thing is that you can get the Imperial kind of thing as well. Just go to Pentode and you'll get that real nice, 1960's Fender-style sharp attack.
  • The Sky King's lead channel tones are much like the Imperial. It's got that same kind of mid-bite thing. If you turn it all the way down it's a little more tweed, but you've got 6L6's, so it's going to give you a little different sound, with a little more beef to it. You can really hear the compression in the Sky King, too. Just like the Imperial, you can crank the mid-bite up and it brings up a peak in the upper midrange, tightens up the bass - but you still get that range.
  • And then there's the built-in Ironman attenuator. It adds real value to this amp in its own right, but I took it a step further and gave it dual attenuation controls; one control for the rhythm channel and the other for the lead channel so you can match up the attenuation to perfectly meet your needs."
