Mark V Combo

Overview:
OVER 40 YEARS OF RANDALL SMITH’S INNOVATION IN ONE AMP.
Longtime MESA® artist and Mark series devotee, John Petrucci:
IT TOOK 40 YEARS of Randall Smith's experience designing high-performance tube amplifiers to get this much TONE under one roof and keep it easy to dial. More than a collection of amplifiers, the MARK V™ is a living history of MESA's® contributions and a tribute to the evolution of electric guitar tone.

The MARK V™ is really a collection of amplifiers. There are far too many circuits and sounds to think of it as merely an amp. It is also a living history of our company. From the groundbreaking MARK I™ that introduced the world to high-gain with it’s cascading pre amp, to the Mark II™ - the world’s first high gain Dual Mode Channel Switching amplifier and it’s later siblings that introduced Simul-Class™ power. From the MARK III™ that ushered in the era of 3 Channel footswitching performance, to the MARK IV™ which gave all this power individual control, the MARK V is the embodiment of the last 40 years of guitar amp history.

THEY'RE ALL HERE: the MARK I, the MARK IIC+, the MARK IV… all these are faithful recreations that benefit from our decades of refinement and leave many saying they're better than the original! Mark V Head

The MARK V is really a collection of amplifiers.

IT TOOK 40 YEARS of Randall Smith's experience designing high-performance tube amps to get this much TONE under one roof and keep it easy to dial. More than a collection of amplifiers, the MARK FIVE™ is a living history of MESA's® contributions and a tribute to the evolution of electric guitar tone.

THEY'RE ALL HERE: the MARK I®, the MARK IIC+®, the MARK IV®… all these are faithful recreations that benefit from our decades of refinement and leave many saying they're better than the original! More than our Greatest Hits, you'll also find some new Brit-inspired circuits here that rival these classic Boogie sounds and are destined to become iconic on their own merit.

No less than 9 patents stand guard over your Tone… ensuring your investment will be protected and your amp will hold its value. (MARK II C's and MARK IV's still sell for more than their original purchase price). Beware of Imitators!

Overview:
The MARK V is really a collection of amplifiers. There are far too many circuits and sounds to think of it as merely an amp. It is also a living history of our company. From the ground breaking MARK I that introduced the world to high-gain with it’s cascading pre amp, to the Mark II - the world’s first high gain Dual Mode Channel Switching amplifier and it’s later siblings that introduced Simul-ClassTM power. From the MARK III that ushered in the era of 3 Channel footswitching performance, to the MARK IV which gave all this power individual control, the MARK V is the embodiment of the last 40 years of guitar amp history.

PREAMP:
Three distinct Channels present the 3 footswitchable sounds in a simple to dial platform, but don’t let that fool you... beneath each set of controls lies another layer of performance. Each preamp Channel contains 3 distinct Modes that are controlled by a simple mini-toggle MODE switch found in the upper left corner of each Channel. This switch is responsible for the voicing of each Channel. In some cases these voicings are related by style and give you important musical differences within a gain structure and sonic theme. In other cases, both gain and EQ are radically altered to achieve drastically different sounds - yet these sounds appear on the same set of controls. This is a result of needing a certain circuit architecture and Tone control string to achieve a particular sound style. Sometimes these extreme mode differences require different Gain and Tone control treatments to achieve a recognizable and iconic sound. In other words, it may require some dialing of the controls when you are touring through the modes. With circuits capable of these extremes, there is simply no way to avoid this. Don’t worry though, with what you learn in this manual combined with using your ear - you will quickly learn to choose a mode and dial it up to your needs in seconds.

California Tweed 6V6 4:40 Combo

Overview:
50 YEARS OF CRAFTSMANSHIP CULMINATES IN AN EXCITING NEW REALM OF BEAUTIFULLY SIMPLISTIC, TWEED BASED PERFORMANCE.

In the twilight of the 1960s, SF Bay Area amp repairman to the Stars, Randall Smith, was inspired to start building his own amplifiers after coming to a deep appreciation for the ‘50s Tweed circuits developed by Leo Fender. He loved their organic sounding voice, powerful controls and the way they smoothly transitioned from clean to clip and back again.
Standing on the shoulders of a giant, Smith’s (and the World’s) first venture into boutique guitar amplification resulted in a new Boogie® amp design inspired by that wonderful, timeless sounding preamp. Five Decades later we return to pay homage. Now, drawing on these 50 years of experience, we bring forward an exciting new realm of tweed-based performance and authentic 6V6 character. A beautifully simplistic design that raises the bar in the world of vintage tone. The NEW CALIFORNIA TWEED™

SINGLE CHANNEL SIMPLICITY, 5 POWER OPTIONS AT THE SWITCH
The all-tube California Tweed is powered by 4x6V6 Power Tubes while the preamp features 5x12AX7 and 1x12AT7 preamp tubes. Our patented Incremental Multi-Watt™ (Patent 9,917,560) Power Amp, featuring Duo-Class™ (Patent 7,173,488) and Dyna-Watt™ technologies, provides five power levels, two operating-classes and three wiring options via a single 5-Way Rotary Switch!

Choose from the following power options:

  • 40 Watts - 4x6V6 Class A/B Pentode
  • 30 Watts - 2x6V6 Class A/B Triode + 2x6V6 Class A/B Pentode
  • 20 Watts - 2x6V6 Class A/B Pentode
  • 10 Watts - 2x6V6 Class A/B Triode
  • 2 Watts - 1x6V6 Triode + 1x6V6 Pentode, Single-Ended Class A Parallel

A quick glance at the front panel of the California Tweed reveals single channel simplicity. Channel features include Normal & Low (Low is padded for more headroom) Inputs, Gain, Treble, Mid, Bass, Presence, Reverb & Master Controls. Our legendary vintage all-tube, long-tank, spring reverb with external reverb switching jack (Reverb Footswitch & Cable Sold Separately) and a fully buffered, tube-driven series FX loop round out a feature set that delivers everything you need for golden tone, and absolutely nothing more. The new California Tweed™… harken back, bounce on forward, …while never sacrificing one drop of golden California Tone.
